Chapter 7: Environmental ProtectionSECTION 7.2: TREE PROTECTIONSubsection 7.2.3: Protection of Heritage Trees(b)(c)identified, where practical. Groups of heritage trees in closeproximity (i.e., those within five feet of each other) may be designatedas a clump of trees, with the predominant species, estimated number,and average diameter indicated.Inclusion of Other TreesThe tree inventory shall also depict the location, species, and diameterof existing trees (other than heritage trees) to be retained andcredited towards the landscaping requirements in Section 5.2,Landscaping Standards.Professionally PreparedTree inventories for lots larger than one acre in size shall be preparedby a licensed landscape architect, surveyor, arborist, registeredforester, or professional engineer and shall have an accuracy of plus orminus three feet.(2) Establishment of Tree Protection ZoneConcurrent with, or following the preparation of a tree inventory, the ownerof land subject to this section shall prepare and submit a tree protection zonediagram, subject to the following requirements:(a)Location(i)(ii)A designated tree protection zone shall be demarcated on asite plan, planned development master plan, grading plan,preliminary plat, or final plat (as appropriate).Tree protection zones associated with a subdivision shall belocated within an open space set-aside and outside of allbuildable lots.(b)Area Within Tree Protection ZoneThe tree protection zone shall incorporate the root zones anddriplines of all heritage trees and other trees to be retained inaccordance with this section and Section 7.2.6, Tree ProtectionIncentives (see Figure 7.2.3, Tree Protection Zones).CURRITUCK COUNTY, NC UNIFIED DEVELOPMENT ORDINANCE7.8
