Chapter 10: Definitions and MeasurementSECTION 10.5: DEFINITIONSDwelling, manufactured Home - Class Ba. the home has a length not exceeding three times its width;b. the pitch of the home's roof has a minimum vertical rise of one foot for eachfive feet of horizontal run, and the roof is finished with a type of shingle that iscommonly used in standard residential construction;c. the exterior siding consists of wood, hardboard, or aluminum (vinyl coveredor painted, but in no case exceeding the reflectivity of gloss white paint)comparable in composition, appearance, and durability to the exterior sidingcommonly used in standard residential construction;d. a continuous, permanent masonry curtain wall, unpierced except for requiredventilation and access, is installed under the home after placement on the lotand before occupancy; ande. the tongue, axles, transporting lights, and removable towing apparatus areremoved after placement on the lot and before occupancy.DWELLING, MANUFACTURED HOME - CLASS BA manufactured home constructed after July 1, 1976, that meets or exceeds the constructionstandards promulgated by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban <strong>Development</strong> that werein effect at the time of construction but that does not satisfy the criteria necessary to qualifythe house as a class A manufactured home.DWELLING, MANUFACTURED HOME - CLASS CAny manufactured home that does not meet the definitional criteria of a class A or class Bmanufactured home. Class C manufactured homes are manufactured homes constructed priorto July 1, 1976, and are not permitted in <strong>Currituck</strong> <strong>County</strong>.DWELLING, MULTI-FAMILYA dwelling containing three or more individual dwelling units, with the units often stacked oneabove the other in a vertical configuration, sharing common vertical walls and/or horizontalfloors and ceilings.DWELLING, SINGLE-FAMILY DETACHEDA residential building containing not more than one dwelling unit to be occupied by one family,not physically attached to any other principal structure. For regulatory purposes, this termdoes not include manufactured homes, recreational vehicles, or other forms of temporary orportable housing. Manufactured buildings constructed for use as single-family dwelling units(manufactured home dwellings) are treated similar to single-family detached dwellings.DWELLING, TOWNHOUSEA type of multi-family dwelling, in which three or more individual dwelling units are located onindividual lots, but attached by one or more common party walls which are shared by one ormore units for more than 50 percent of their total linear distance along the lot line. Thehabitable spaces of different dwelling units are typically arranged on a side-by-side rather than astacked configuration.DWELLING, UPPER STORYA dwelling unit located on the second floor or higher of a building with nonresidential useslocated on the first floor.DWELLING UNITOne room or rooms connected together, constituting a separate, independent housekeepingestablishment for owner or renter occupancy, and containing independent cooking andsleeping facilities, and sanitary facilities.CURRITUCK COUNTY, NC UNIFIED DEVELOPMENT ORDINANCE10.51
