Chapter 4: Use StandardsSECTION 4.2: USE-SPECIFIC STANDARDSSubsection 4.2.3: Institutional Uses(iii)Screening(A)(B)Antennas visible from the street shall be omnidirectional,be screened, or be camouflaged, to themaximum extent practicable, to minimize theirappearance.All other equipment shall be located within thebuilding or screened in some other fashion to preventoff-site views.I. Utility, MajorAn electrical power facility, substation, or transmission station shall be set back at least100 feet from all lot lines.J. Utility, Minor(1) Minor utility facilities owned by a public utility as defined in Chapter 62 of theNorth Carolina General Statutes are permissible in all zoning districts with azoning compliance permit.(2) The utility facility, storage of vehicles or equipment shall be fully screened onall sides by an opaque wall, fence, retained vegetation, or planted vegetation toa height of eight feet. If planted vegetation is used, it must satisfy the standardwithin three years after planting.(3) Continued maintenance of the screening (including replanting, if necessary)shall be a continuing condition of the permit.(4) Utility facilities of 16 square feet or less may be setback five feet from all sideand rear lot lines. Utility facilities of between 16 and 100 square feet may belocated as close as ten feet from all side and rear lot lines. All others utilitybuildings shall meet the minimum setback requirements for the district wherethey are located.(5) Driveways and parking areas shall be provided as required in this <strong>Ordinance</strong>,including the installation of concrete aprons where driveways abut publicstreets.K. Wind Energy Facility, LargeA large wind energy facility shall comply with the following standards:(1) Location(a) No turbine tower associated with a large wind energy facility shall belocated within 1,000 feet of land in the RC district or a public park.(b) All ground-based equipment buildings shall be located under the bladesweep area, to the maximum extent practicable.(2) Setbacks(a)All towers associated with a large wind energy facility shall be set backa distance equal to .25 miles from any residential dwelling unit and 1.1times the overall height of the tower and associated wind turbineblade from a public right-of-way and the property line of any nonparticipatinglandowner.CURRITUCK COUNTY, NC UNIFIED DEVELOPMENT ORDINANCE4.24
