Chapter 10: Definitions and MeasurementSECTION 10.5: DEFINITIONSVEGETATION, NATIVEFor the purpose of Flood Damage Prevention, a grant of relief from the requirements of thisordinance.VEGETATION, NATIVEAny indigenous tree, shrub, ground cover or other plant adapted to the soil, climatic, andhydrographic conditions occurring on the site.VEHICULAR USE AREAAreas used for the parking and circulation of automobiles, trucks, and motorcycles.VEHICULAR USE AREA LANDSCAPING, PERIMETERVegetative material, structures (walls or fences), berms, and associated ground cover locatedaround the perimeter of a parking lot, or other vehicular use area when such areas areadjacent to a street right-of-way or land in a residential district or residentially developedlands, used property for the purposes of screening the vehicular use area from off-site views.VESTED RIGHTThe right to undertake and complete a development or use of property under the terms andconditions of an approved site-specific development plan currently in effect or as otherwiseallowed by law.VESTIBULEA passage, hall, or room between the outer door and the interior of a building, also known asa lobby.VETERINARY CLINICA facility for the care and treatment of animals, including household pets and largerdomesticated animals. Such facilities may be entirely indoors or may have both indoor andoutdoor components.VIOLATIONFor the purposes of Section 7.4, Flood Damage Prevention, the failure of a structure or otherdevelopment to be fully compliant with the community's floodplain management regulations. Astructure or other development without the elevation certificate, other certifications, or otherevidence of compliance required in Articles 4 and 5 is presumed to be in violation until suchtime as that documentation is provided.VOCATIONAL OR TRADE SCHOOLA specialized instructional school operating for or not for profit that provides on-site trainingof business, commercial, and/or trade skills such as accounting, data processing, and computerrepair.WALL PACKAn exterior lighting device that is flush-mounted on a vertical wall surface.WALL, PARAPETA low protective or decorative wall or railing along the edge of a raised structure such as aroof or balcony.WAREHOUSE (DISTRIBUTION)A use engaged in distribution of manufactured products, supplies, and equipment.CURRITUCK COUNTY, NC UNIFIED DEVELOPMENT ORDINANCE10.88
