Chapter 4: Use StandardsSECTION 4.2: USE-SPECIFIC STANDARDSSubsection 4.2.5: Industrial Uses(c)(d)(e)(f)The building that houses the dwelling unit may not be expanded bymore than ten percent of its original floor area, nor may rooms forrent be added onto or created within accessory buildings.There shall be at least one parking space per sleeping room.There shall only be one kitchen and all meals served on the premisesshall be for overnight quests.Not more than one sign may be erected on the lot where such a useis located. The sign may not exceed six square feet in surface area norbe internally illuminated.(2) Hotels and MotelsHotel and motel uses shall comply with the following standards:(a)(b)(c)(d)Maximum DensityIn no case may the number of lodging units exceed 40 lodging unitsper acre.OwnershipAll hotel units associated with a single development shall be undercommon ownership, and in no instance shall individual units be heldunder individual ownership.Area Devoted to Non-living QuartersUp to 20 percent of the gross floor area of a hotel or motel may befor non-living-quarter incidental uses (accessory uses), includingmanagement/employee offices, conference space, meeting rooms,banquet halls, retail services, such as newsstands and gift shops, andsimilar uses, provided any incidental business is conducted primarily toservice guests.Eating EstablishmentsIn addition to the accessory uses allowed in Section 4.3, AccessoryUse Standards, up to an additional 20 percent of the gross floor areaof a hotel or motel may be devoted to eating establishments as anaccessory use. The eating establishments(s) may have an entrancefrom outside the principal building.4.2.5. Industrial UsesA. Extractive IndustryExtractive industry uses shall receive and maintain a State of North Carolina miningpermit and comply with the following standards:(1) General(a)Any mine activity affecting more than one acre (including excavation,area where overburden is placed, area used processing or treatmentand settling ponds, access roads, etc.) shall be subject to theseregulations and require a use permit.CURRITUCK COUNTY, NC UNIFIED DEVELOPMENT ORDINANCE4.35
