Chapter 5: <strong>Development</strong> StandardsSECTION 5.11: FARMLAND COMPATIBILITY STANDARDSSubsection 5.11.5: Farmland Compatibility Standards5.11.5. Farmland Compatibility StandardsA. Vegetated Buffer<strong>Development</strong> subject to these standardsshall provide a fifty-foot-wide vegetatedbuffer between building lots in thedevelopment and an existing agriculturaluse. The buffer shall (see Figure 5.11.5,Farmland Compatibility Features):(1) Remain undisturbed for aminimum distance of 25 feet fromthe edge of the agricultural use orboundary of the agriculturalactivity;(2) Include at least 15 aggregatecaliper inches of canopy trees forevery 100 linear feet of bufferlength;(3) Incorporate existing or plantedvegetation, configured in astaggered fashion, so as to createtwo or more rows of trees withinthe buffer; and(4) Incorporate a fence, berm,drainage ditch, or anycombination of these features tophysically separate the agriculturaluse from the new development.Nothing in this section shall limitthe use of wire fencing for this purpose.Figure 5.11.5, FarmlandCompatibility FeaturesB. Location of Open Space Set-AsideIn cases where new development includes an open space set-aside, it shall be locatedbetween the agricultural use and the buildings in the new development, to themaximum extent practicable.C. Lot Location<strong>Development</strong> subject to these standards shall be configured to ensure farms oragricultural uses retain direct access to adjacent streets.D.
