Chapter 5: <strong>Development</strong> StandardsSECTION 5.1: OFF-STREET PARKING AND LOADINGSubsection 5.1.4: Configuration of Vehicular Use Areas(b)(c)Backing onto Streets ProhibitedExcept for parking areas serving single-family detached dwellings, alloff-street parking, loading, and circulation areas shall be arranged sothat no vehicle is required to back from such areas directly onto apublic street. Vehicular access ways and vehicular use areas on privatelands are not considered public streets.EasementsNo off-street parking, loading, or circulation area shall be locatedwithin an easement without the written consent of the person oragency that holds the easement, unless already provided for by anexisting easement agreement.(6) Access and Curb CutsAny construction of or modification to an access drive or curb cut shallrequire prior approval of the Planning Director. This provision shall not applyto private access streets that are consistent with Section 6.2.1.I, whichrequires that private streets be built to the same standard as public streets.(7) Parking Lot Cross-Access(a)GeneralAll development, except townhouse, single-family detached, and twotofour-family dwellings shall be designed to allow for parking lotcross-access to adjacent compatible development in accordance withthe following standards:(i)(ii)(iii)Limited to Two ParcelsCross-access ways shall be designed and located based on thestandards of this section, but in no case shall a developmentbe required to provide cross-access to more than twoadjacent parcels.Future Stubs RequiredA connection for future parking lot cross-access shall beprovided to all adjacent vacant land zoned MXR or within aBusiness and Mixed-Use, or Planned <strong>Development</strong> zoningdistrict. <strong>Development</strong> subject to these standards shall bedesigned to provide future cross-access in at least onelocation while remaining in compliance with all landscaping andstormwater standards.Minimum WidthCross-access ways shall allow for two-way traffic betweenparcels through the use of a single drive aisle with a minimumwidth of 20 feet, or through two one-way aisles, each with aminimum width of 10 feet.CURRITUCK COUNTY, NC UNIFIED DEVELOPMENT ORDINANCE5.9
