Chapter 6: Subdivision and Infrastructure StandardsSECTION 6.2: REQUIRED INFRASTRUCTURESubsection 6.2.3: Utility Standards(iii) Provides tertiary treatment of sewage if cumulativewastewater flows exceed 3,000 gallons per day.(2) Sewage System Requirements(a)(b)(c)(d)No wastewater system shall discharge into surface waters.No centralized wastewater system shall be located within an Area ofEnvironmental Concern (AEC).When lots in a major subdivision are to be served by on-site orclustered wastewater systems, no preliminary plat shall be approveduntil Albemarle Regional Health Services has certified that each lot onthe preliminary plat has been inspected and found provisionallysuitable or suitable for a wasterwater system capable of dispersing atleast 360 gallons per day per lot.<strong>Development</strong> permits issued for a development using a wastewatersystem not subject to the regulatory jurisdiction of Albemarle RegionalHealth Services shall be contingent upon:(i)(ii)(iii)(iv)The ability to obtain all necessary approvals for thewastewater system from the appropriate regulatory agencies;Proper installation of the system;Operation of the system to the satisfaction of the <strong>County</strong>Engineer; andTertiary treatment of sewage.(e)Except for conservation subdivisions or other developmentsemploying a clustered or centralized wastewater system, all requiredon-site wastewater system improvements and requirements including,but not limited to the septic tank, drain lines, repair area, and pumpsshall be located on the individual lot they are designed to serve.(3) Reserve Area Required(a)(b)(c)(d)Subdivisions of 20 or more lots or dwelling units served by on-stiewastewater systems shall reserve an area, suitable in terms of size,location, soil type, topography, and other relevant factors toaccommodate a clustered or centralized wastewater system if onebecomes necessary in the future due to septic tank failure or otherhealth or safety reasons.This area is referred to as reserve utility open space, and shall beencumbered by a reserve area easement.Lots classified by Albemarle Regional Health Services as suitable for anon-site wastewater system are not required to be included in thereserve area calculation.The developer shall provide plans and specifications, prepared by aqualified professional, including a soil analysis and an analysis of loadingrate, depending on the disposal method for an adequate reserve utilityopen space to the satisfaction of the <strong>County</strong> Engineer and Board ofCommissioners.CURRITUCK COUNTY, NC UNIFIED DEVELOPMENT ORDINANCE6.19
