Chapter 7: Environmental ProtectionSECTION 7.4: FLOOD DAMAGE PREVENTIONSubsection 7.4.6: Standardsnot result in any increase in the base flood elevation and not cause any adverseimpacts by wave ramping or deflection to the subject structure or adjacentproperties.(6) Alteration of DunesThere shall be no alteration of sand dunes which would increase potentialflood damage.(7) Allowed Uses(a)(b)No manufactured homes shall be permitted in the coastal high hazardflood zone.Recreational vehicles are permitted in the coastal high hazard floodzone, subject to the standards in Section 7.4.6.A.7, RecreationalVehicles.C. Standards for Floodplains without Established Base Flood ElevationsThe following standards shall apply to all development within A Flood zones where nobase flood elevation data has been provided by FEMA:(1) The standards in Section 7.4.6.A.1, Standards Applied to All <strong>Development</strong>.(2) No encroachments, including fill, new construction, substantial improvementsor new development shall be permitted within an area located 20 feet fromtop of a stream bank or five times the width of the stream, whichever isgreater, unless a professional engineer certifies the encroachment shall notincrease flood levels during the occurrence of the base flood discharge.(3) The base flood elevation used in determining the minimum regulatory floodprotection elevation shall be determined based on the following:(a)(b)(c)When base flood elevation data is available from other sources, allnew construction and substantial improvements within such areas shallalso comply with all applicable provisions of this <strong>Ordinance</strong> and shallbe elevated or floodproofed in accordance with standards in Section7.4.6.A, General Standards.When floodway or non-encroachment data is available from a Federal,State, or other source, all new construction and substantialimprovements within floodway and non-encroachment areas shall alsocomply with the requirements in Sections 7.4.6.A.2-9, and 7.4.6.D,Standards for Floodways and Non-encroachment Areas.All development of more than five acres, 50 lots, or 50 dwelling unitsshall provide base flood elevation data that will be used inimplementing these standards.D. Standards for Floodways and Non-encroachment AreasAreas designated as floodways or non-encroachment can be extremely hazardousareas due to the velocity of floodwaters that have erosion potential and carry debrisand potential projectiles. <strong>Development</strong> within these areas shall comply with thefollowing standards:(1) The standards in Section 7.4, Flood Damage Prevention, all other applicablestandards in this ordinance, and the <strong>Currituck</strong> <strong>County</strong> Administrative Manual;CURRITUCK COUNTY, NC UNIFIED DEVELOPMENT ORDINANCE7.30
