Chapter 2: AdministrationSECTION 2.2: ADVISORY AND DECISION-MAKING BODIESSubsection 2.2.4: Board of Adjustment(b)(c)(d)(e)(f)electoral district in the county, two of which shall be alternatemembers.Regular members leaving the Board shall be replaced by existingalternate members; likewise, newly appointed members shall beassigned as alternate members, when practicable. In situations whenthis can not be met, seats shall be determined by the Board ofCommissioners.Board of Adjustment members shall reside within the county. Achange in residence to a location outside the county shall constitute aresignation from the Board of Adjustment, effective upon the date areplacement is appointed.An alternate member may sit in-lieu of a regular member upon recusalby a regular member and assignment by the Chair. When seated as aregular member, alternate members shall have the same powers andduties as the regular member they replace.Board of Adjustment members shall be appointed for three-year,staggered terms. Members shall continue to serve until theirsuccessors are appointed.Vacancies occurring for reasons other than expiration of terms shallbe filled for the period of the unexpired term only.(2) Chair and Vice-Chair(a)(b)At its first meeting in January of each year, the Board of Adjustmentshall elect a Chair and a Vice-Chair from among its members, each toserve a one-year term.The Chair shall preside over all board meetings. The Vice-Chair shallpreside over board meetings in the absence of the Chair. If both theChair and Vice-Chair are absent, the Board of Adjustment shall voteto determine who shall serve as Chair for the meeting.C. StaffThe Planning Director shall serve as the professional staff liaison to the Board ofAdjustment and provide it with administrative support.D. Meetings(1) ScheduleThe Board of Adjustment shall hold at least one regular meeting in eachmonth unless the Chair determines that there are no agenda items forconsideration.(2) Official Record(a)(b)The Board of Adjustment shall keep a record of its recommendations,transactions, findings, and determinations.The record shall be a public record.(3) Publication of NoticePublication of notice of all Board of Adjustment meetings shall be provided inaccordance with state law and the public hearing requirements in Section2.3.6, Public Hearing Scheduling and Public Notification.CURRITUCK COUNTY, NC UNIFIED DEVELOPMENT ORDINANCE2.6
