Chapter 4: Use StandardsSECTION 4.4: TEMPORARY USE STANDARDSSubsection 4.4.6: Specific Regulations for Certain Temporary Uses and StructuresF. Temporary Keeping of LivestockTemporary keeping of livestock as an educational project, and sponsored by a youthorganization in a residential district, shall comply with the following standards:(1) Prior Notification to Planning Director Required(a) The market livestock project shall be approved by a bona fideeducational or agricultural association for youths, such as the 4-HLivestock Club and similar organizations.(b) Prior written notice of intent to participate in a livestock project shallbe provided to the Planning Director no less than 14 prior to thecommencement of the project. The notice shall specify the address atwhich the project will be conducted, the name of the associationsponsoring the project, the type of animal to be kept on the premises,and the lot acreage.(c) The Planning Director may require verification that a livestock keepingproject has been approved and is sponsored by a bona fide educationalor agricultural association for youths.(2) Configuration(a)(b)(c)(d)(3) Livestock Types(a)A temporary livestock keeping project shall only be conducted as anaccessory use to a principal residential use.All pens, shelters, and animal quarters shall be located behind theprincipal residential structure.Pens, shelters, and animal quarters shall be located 75 feet from anyoccupied dwelling, 100 feet from any well, and 25 feet from all abuttinglot lines.All pens, stalls, and grazing areas shall be maintained in a sanitarymanner that does not result in noxious odors.The temporary keeping of cattle and hogs shall be permitted only inthe AG and MXR zoning districts on lots with a minimum area of oneacre or more. The temporary keeping of sheep and goats may be kepton any residential lot with a lot area of 20,000 square feet or more.G. Temporary Storage in Portable Shipping ContainersTemporary storage in a portable shipping container shall be permitted for thepurposes of temporary storage subject to the following standards:(1) SizeStorage containers may not exceed 160 square feet in size or be taller thaneight feet.(2) Location(a)Containers shall be located within a driveway, parking, or loading area.In cases where the driveway, parking, or loading area extends behindthe front façade of a building, the container shall be placed behind thefront façade.CURRITUCK COUNTY, NC UNIFIED DEVELOPMENT ORDINANCE4.69
