Chapter 4: Use StandardsSECTION 4.2: USE-SPECIFIC STANDARDSSubsection 4.2.4: Commercial Uses(3) Boat and Marine Rental, Sales, and ServiceBoat and marine rental, sales, and service establishments shall comply with thefollowing standards:(a)(b)(c)I. Vehicle Sales and Services, LightTemporary outdoor storage may be allowed in an outdoor storagearea that is no larger than 40 percent of the buildable area of the lot,located behind or to the side of the principal structure, and screenedin accordance with Section 4.3.3.P, Outdoor Storage.Display areas shall be located outside all setbacks and shall bescreened from adjacent streets with a Type A perimeter landscapingbuffer.Display areas shall be surfaced with concrete, asphalt, or otherpermanent surfacing material other than crushed stone.(1) Automotive Parts Sales and InstallationRepair of all vehicles shall occur within an enclosed building. Temporaryoutdoor vehicle storage may be allowed in an outdoor storage area that is nolarger than 25 percent of the buildable area of the lot, located behind or to theside of the principal structure, and screened with an opaque wooden fence ormasonry wall in accordance with Section 5.3, Fences and Walls.(2) Automotive Repair and Service (Without Painting/Bodywork)Automotive repair and service uses not involving painting or bodywork serviceshall comply with the following standards:(a)(b)(c)(d)(e)The repair facility shall be located at least 125 feet from any residentialdistrict, school (except vocational school), or child care center.Repair of all vehicles shall occur within an enclosed building.Temporary outdoor vehicle storage may be allowed in an outdoorstorage area that is no larger than 25 percent of the buildable area ofthe lot, located behind or to the side of the principal structure, andscreened in accordance with Section 4.3.3.P, Outdoor Storage.If gasoline is sold on-site, the use shall also comply with the standardsfor a gasoline sales use in Section 4.3.3.I.Vehicles shall not be parked or stored as a source of parts or thepurpose of sale or lease/rent.Vehicles that are repaired and are awaiting removal shall not be storedor parked for more than 30 consecutive days. In cases where avehicle is abandoned by its lawful owner before or during the repairprocess, the vehicle may remain on site as long as is necessary afterthe 30 day period, provided the owner or operator of theestablishment demonstrates steps have been taken to remove thevehicle from the premises using the appropriate legal means.(3) Automotive Sales or RentalsUses primarily involving the sales or rental of automobiles, trucks, recreationalvehicles, or travel trailers, shall comply with the following standards:(a)The use shall be located on a lot of at least 40,000 square feet in areaand a minimum lot width of 125 feet;CURRITUCK COUNTY, NC UNIFIED DEVELOPMENT ORDINANCE4.33
