Chapter 4: Use StandardsSECTION 4.2: USE-SPECIFIC STANDARDSSubsection 4.2.1: Agricultural Uses(3) Equestrian FacilitiesEquestrian facilities shall comply with the following standards:(a)(b)(c)The land on which the facility is located shall be at least two acres insize.No stalls or stables shall be within 200 feet of any existing adjoiningresidential dwelling and 100 feet from any adjoining well being used forhuman consumption.Stables must be operated and maintained in a healthy and safe manner.Healthy and safe is defined as, but not limited to: fences kept in goodrepair; potable water available on demand; protection from wind orrain; a sign posted indicating the name and phone number of theperson to be contacted in case of emergency.(4) Nursery, Production(a)(b)(5) Roadside Market(a)(b)(c)No heated greenhouse shall be operated within 20 feet of any lot line.Any outside storage of equipment, vehicles, or supplies shall be fullyscreened from off-site views by buildings, fencing, or landscaping.Retail sales within a roadside market shall be limited to the agriculturaland aquaculture products produced by the owners or vendors in theestablishment.At least 75 percent of the floor area shall be devoted to the directretail sales of agricultural, seafood, or related agricultural products tothe general public.Temporary signage associated with a roadside market shall not beerected more than 30 days prior to the seasonal opening of themarket, and shall be removed within 30 days of the closing of theseason.C. Agricultural Support and Services (Not Directly Related)(1) GeneralAll agricultural support and services (not directly related) uses shall havedirect access onto a major arterial or collector street.(2) Stockyard/Slaughterhouse(a)(b)(c)(d)(e)Slaughter of animals shall take place inside a closed building in aconfined area to prevent the transmission of sound to the outside.Vehicular access to the facility shall not be obtained throughresidential areas.Animals shall be enclosed in gated enclosures with a minimum heightof six feet.Waste shall be stored in airtight containers and shall be confined infully enclosed structures.All loading and unloading areas shall be screened from view fromadjacent lands and public streets.CURRITUCK COUNTY, NC UNIFIED DEVELOPMENT ORDINANCE4.10
