Chapter 4: Use StandardsSECTION 4.2: USE-SPECIFIC STANDARDSSubsection 4.2.2: Residential Uses4.2.2. Residential UsesA. Household Living(1) Dwellings, DuplexDuplex dwellings shall comply with the following standards:(a)(b)(c)(d)Duplex dwellings in the SFM district on lots less than 20,000 squarefeet are subject to an approved use permit (see Section 2.4.6).Except for circular driveways, no duplex dwelling shall be served bymore than one driveway on the same block face.Duplex dwellings in the SFM and MXR districts shall be served by asingle entrance on any individual building façade.Ground based, roof-based, and wall-mounted electrical equipment,HVAC equipment, and other utility connection devices shall be gangedand screened, or located outside the view from any adjacent publicstreet.(2) Dwellings, Live/WorkLive/work dwellings shall comply with the following standards:(a)(b)(c)(d)(e)The residential portion of the building shall occupy over 50 percent ofthe gross floor area.The nonresidential portion of the building shall comply with allapplicable nonresidential building code requirements.Employees shall be limited to occupants of the residential portion ofthe building plus up to three persons not residing in the residentialportion.Drive-through facilities are prohibited.Any nonresidential off-street parking shall be located as far aspracticable from existing adjacent single-family dwellings.(3) Dwelling, Mansion ApartmentMansion apartments shall comply with the following requirements.(a)(b)(c)(d)(e)Individual mansion apartment buildings shall not exceed six individualdwelling units.The maximum length of any structure using the mansion apartmentbuilding form, regardless of the quantity of dwellings, shall be 200 feet.All sides of a mansion apartment building visible from lands occupiedby or designated for single-family detached residential uses or anexisting public street right-of-way shall display a similar level of qualityand architectural detailing.Ground based, roof-based, and wall-mounted electrical equipment,HVAC equipment, and other utility connection devices shall be gangedand screened, or located outside the view from any adjacent publicstreet.Except on corner lots, mansion apartments shall be served by a singledriveway and off-street parking area. Buildings on corner lots mayhave up to two individual driveways provided each driveway isaccessed by a different street.CURRITUCK COUNTY, NC UNIFIED DEVELOPMENT ORDINANCE4.11
