Chapter 10: Definitions and MeasurementSECTION 10.5: DEFINITIONSWarehouse (Storage)WAREHOUSE (STORAGE)A use engaged in storage of manufactured products, supplies, and equipment excluding bulkstorage of materials that are flammable or explosive or that present hazards or conditionscommonly recognized as offensive.WASTE COMPOSTINGUses where solid wastes are composted using composting technology. Accessory uses mayinclude offices and repackaging and transshipment of by-products.WATER SURFACE ELEVATIONThe height, in relation to mean sea level, of floods of various magnitudes and frequencies in thefloodplains of coastal or riverine areas.WATERCOURSEA lake, river, creek, stream, wash, channel or other topographic feature on or over whichwaters flow at least periodically. Watercourse includes specifically designated areas in whichsubstantial flood damage may occur.WATERWAY CONVEYANCE SYSTEMA natural or man-made drainage channel, structure, or feature designed, intended, or used tocollect and convey stormwater runoff.WETLANDS, CAMAThose areas of land, marsh, or swamp which are frequently saturated or covered with waterdesignated by various state agencies as CAMA Wetlands. There are three types of wetlands;a. CAMA Wetlands - Those areas of land, marsh, or swamp which are frequentlysaturated or covered with water, subject to tidal action, and designated by variousstate agencies as CAMA Wetlands. These wetlands shall not be filled nor counted inthe Yield Plan.b. Isolated 404 Wetlands - Wetland pockets that have no connection, subsurface orsurface, to any adjacent water body. These wetlands may be filled with Army Corps ofEngineers approval and may be used in calculating the yield.c. Adjacent/Contiguous 404 Wetlands – These wetlands have a subsurface or surfaceconnection to a water body and shall not count towards the yield.WHOLESALE SALES ESTABLISHMENTEstablishments or places of business primarily engaged in selling merchandise to retailers; toindustrial, commercial, institutional, or professional business users; or to other wholesalers.Wholesale establishment does not include contractor’s materials or office or retail sales ofbusiness supplies/office equipment.WIND ENERGY FACILITY, LARGEA wind energy facility that incorporates a wind turbine tower in excess of 120 feet in height,or more than one wind turbine tower, that generates a total of more than 100 kilowatt hoursof electricity per year.WIND ENERGY FACILITY, SMALLA wind energy facility, constructed as an accessory uses, that includes a single wind towerturbine with a height of less than 120 feet, that generates less than 100 kilowatt hours ofelectricity per year.CURRITUCK COUNTY, NC UNIFIED DEVELOPMENT ORDINANCE10.89
