Junto al homo sapiens, el que sabe, y al homo faber, el que hace, posee una trascendencia semejante el homo patiens, en su doble condición de hombre que padece y es paciente. Paciente como enfermo, pero también paciente como médico, ya que el hombre que busca en el otro alivio para su enfermedad, y ese “otro” que, como producto de una complicada coyuntura, se encuentra situado en la condición de médico, quedan hermanados, de una manera conciente o inconciente, en un mismo padecimiento compartido. En el hombre que padece la enfermedad encontramos también al homo faber, el hombre que la hace, la crea en sí mismo o en el otro, como un producto de su arte muchas veces inconciente, en un intento más o menos imperfecto por deshacerse del sufrir, mostrándonos que enfermedad y terapéutica confl uyen así de una manera insospechada como partes de una misma intención. También encontramos, en el hombre que padece la enfermedad, al homo sapiens, al que “sabe”, al que aprende en sí mismo o en el otro acerca de las formas y caminos de la enfermedad o la terapéutica. Con el título Un estudio del hombre que padece hemos reunido en este volumen trabajos que se fueron gestando como producto de una íntima y recíproca infl uencia entre sus autores. Teniendo en cuenta esta génesis particular, hemos procurado ordenarlos de la manera más parecida posible a como fueron surgiendo “cronológicamente” las ideas en ellos incluidas. Esto, junto a las fechas y referencias cruzadas entre los distintos artículos, constituye la mejor historia que podemos intentar en cuanto al desarrollo de tales ideas. Los trabajos fueron realizados por un grupo de psicoanalistas cuya labor, dedicada a profundizar en la comprensión
