La neuralgia de Dora Freud afi rma que la pretendida neuralgia facial de Dora era un modo de autocastigo, de remordimiento por la bofetada propinada a K y por la transferencia sobre Freud de los sentimientos de venganza extraídos de aquella situación (Freud, 1905e [1901]). Si analizamos a la luz de la metapsicología las afi rmaciones implícitas en esta postulación de Freud, nos encontramos con una complicada red de implicaciones teóricas. Una parte de ésta reconstituye lo que en los comienzos del psicoanálisis fue denominado un “complejo”. Vale la pena recorrerla, pausadamente, en varios puntos sucesivos. 1. El dolor en la cara corresponde a una descarga que, en un sentido amplio, tal como lo sostiene Freud en Inhibición, síntoma y angustia, constituye un afecto (Freud, 1926d [1925]; Chiozza, 1975a [1974]). 2. El deseo de castigo se realiza en esta descarga que, como tal, posee el componente de acción motora que corresponde al afecto (Freud, 1915e; Chiozza, 1975a [1974]). 3. El remordimiento es una representación oral utilizada por Freud para referirse a otro afecto, el sentimiento de culpabilidad, que permanece inconciente, como disposición latente (Freud, 1915e), porque se realiza o descarga a través del dolor sustituto gracias a la vinculación preformada, existente como fantasía compleja, entre culpa-castigo-expiación por un lado y castigo-dolor por el otro. 4. La bofetada propinada a K constituye ahora un recuerdo de Freud acerca de algunos conocimientos que le proporcionó el tratamiento de
