Deseo mencionar nuestro nuevo programa en la
Asociacion National de Cooperativas Electricas
Rurales (NRECA). NRECA ha acumulado muchos
anos de experiencia international trabajando con
cooperativas electricas existentes y en el desarrollo
de las nuevas. Ahora agregamos a dicha capacidad,
In particular, I wish to express my thanks to
the Ecuadorian cosponsors of the workshop: the
resources that made this conference possible.
Just as important to all of us is the contribution
made by the USAID Mission in Quito. They pro-
vided the considerable staff effort that an inter-
rational conference like this requires. Thank
YOU.
Finally, a word of thanks to the City of Quito.
It is an WUXllt?iIt location for an international
meeting.
I want to mention our new program at the
National Rural Electric Cooperative Association
(NRECA). NRECA has had years of international
experience in working with existing and deveiop-
ing new electric cooperatives. We now add to
that the capabi!ity to provide technical
assistance to developing countries in the area of
small decentralized hydropower. This program
has come about through a cooperative agree-
hydroelectric plants with less than 1 MW of
capacity. Our activities include, but are not
