Fuentes thnicas. Las fuentes de energia en el
Perti utilizadas para la Electrificaci6n rural son:

tricidad mediante plantas diesel. Este medio de con-
versi6n de energia ha sido muy utilizado debido a ias
menores inversiones en equipos respect0 2 ?as inver-
siones para el aprovechamiento de otras fixntes y
por el bajo costo de1 combustible hasta el sfio 1973.
No obstante ser la politica energ6tir.a el utilizar en
lo minim0 el petr6leo coma fuer;te de energia, hay
regiones de1 ?ais, principalmente en la Selva y en
localidades aisladas en donde iio hay otra alternativa
que generar electricidad cpn grupos diesel. Como
referencia se hate mencidn que las reservas pro-
badas de petr6leo ai mes de Diciembre de 1979 son
de 586 millones 11~ barriles.

Energy Sources for Rural Electrification
Thermal Sources. The energy sources used in
Peru for :tirai electrification are pb-imariiy thermal
using pstroieum fuel for electricity generation by
diesel piants. This means of energy conversion
has been widely used due to the fact that there
are lower equipment investments when compared
to investments needed to take advantage of
other sources and because of the low cost of
fuel up to 1973.
in spite of the government’s policy to minimize
the use of petroleum fuel as energy source, there
are regions in the country, especially in the
jungle and in isolated communities, where there
is no alternative but to generate electricity with
diesel’ powerplants. As a point of reference, .-ve
want to mention that Peru’s tested petroleum
reserves as of December 1979 were 586 million
barrels.
