cases en que caigan rayos; la circunferencia adi-<br />

cional distribuye el calor asociado con 10s conec-<br />

tores causando disminucidn de 10s problemas<br />

relacionados con 10s mismos, en case de que<br />

haya un problema con 10s conectores es preferi-<br />

ble que se queme el fusible de un ACSR nirmero<br />

4 rnas bien que un alimentador principal; si hay<br />

una quemazon de1 sistema de1 alimentador prin-<br />

cipal, el personal sabrri de inmediato qu6 tipo de<br />

materiales de reparation deben llevar al campo<br />

sin tener que refer&e a mapas de1 sistema o in-<br />

vestigar 10s archives.<br />

b. Para todos 10s fusibles, except0 donde las cargas<br />

necesiten conductores mayores, se ha de usar<br />

ACSR numero 4 tanto para 10s conductores<br />

transformadores de distribution.<br />

d. Para las conecciones de servicio, se debe usar<br />

ACSR duplex, triplex y cuadruplex para no<br />

mezclar 10s tipos de1 material.<br />

Cuando se minimiza el nknero de tamanos de 10s<br />

conductores, tambien se minimiza el nlimero de<br />

tamaiios de 10s conectores, las reconecciones, y las<br />

actividades de mantenimiento.<br />

Seleccidn de la Esructura de 10s Postes<br />

Cuando hayan troncos de madera adecuados para<br />

la fabrication de las columnas, se puede producir<br />

postes de madera tratada a presion por 50% menos<br />

que otras estructuras equivalentes para soporte<br />

hechas de concrete. Aunque se pueden producir<br />

pastes de concrete girados con fuerza pre-tensil de<br />

acuerdo a cualquier especificacion determinada, una<br />

columna de concrete mediana de medida <strong>com</strong>parable,<br />

pesa dos veces mas que una columna o poste de<br />

madera con un tercio de la fuerza tensil. En la elec-<br />

trificacion urbana, donde las columnas van<br />

espaciadas a intervalos menores de 50 metros, la<br />

preocupacion por 10s requisitos de fuerza disminuye y<br />

la diferencia en la economia de 10s postes de madera<br />

vs. columnns de concrete no es tan pronunciada. No<br />

connector problem, it is better to burn down<br />

a 4 ACSR tap than to burn down a main<br />

feeder; if there is a main feeder outage<br />

system, personnel know immediately what<br />

type of repair materials to carry to the field<br />

without reference to system maps or re-<br />

searching system files.<br />

b. For all taps, except where loads necessitate<br />

a larger conductor, use 4 ACSR for both the<br />

primary and neutral conductors. This will<br />

simplify warehousing, operations, and<br />

maintenance procedures.<br />

c. For secondary lines, match 110 ACSR and 4<br />

ACSR with the distribution transformer<br />

capacity.<br />

d. For service drops, use ACSR duplex, triplex<br />

and quadruplex in order not to mix material<br />

types.<br />

By minimizing the number of sizes of conduc-<br />

tors, one also minimizes the number of sizes of<br />

connectors, splices, and maintenance activities.<br />

Pole Structure Selection<br />

Where timber products suitable for manufac-<br />

ture of wood poles are available, a full pressure<br />

treated wood pole may be produced for !T.~% less<br />

than other equivalent concrete support shut-<br />

tures. Although spun, pre-stressed cot-~, &e poles<br />

can be produced to any desired specification, an<br />

average concrete pole of <strong>com</strong>parable size is<br />

twice the weight of a wood pole with one-third<br />

less tensile strength. In urban electrification,<br />

where poles are spaced at intervals of less than<br />

fifty meters, strength requirements are of little<br />

concern and the economics of wood vs. concrete<br />

are not so pronounced. However, in rural elec-<br />

trification, with spans of 150 to 200 meters, ten-<br />

sile strength is of major consideration, and the<br />

total cost per kilometer of wood pole line, when<br />

<strong>com</strong>pared with concrete, is substantiaily reduced.<br />

Breakage in transoortation over country roads<br />

is minimal for wood poles but be<strong>com</strong>es a<br />

measurable factor with concrete poles. Wood<br />

pole attachments are simple, which simplifies<br />

field framing. The attachments for concrete poles<br />

are more expensive and llave reduced insulation<br />

levels. A waod pole can be handled more easily<br />

in the field with simple equipment and requires<br />

no special foundations.
