Seleccih de1 Lugar e
Instalacih de la Turbina
Kenneth M. Grover
hubiere.
8. Mapas topogr&ficos de1 area de inter&.
5. Ubicacion de1 punto de uso en ~1 mapa.
Site Selection and
Turbine Setting
Kenneth M. Grover
Without getting into the technical details
presented elsewhere, Kenneth M. Grover presents
the most important elements invcllved in site
selection and turbine installation. Of particular
value is his perspective on the future:
maintenance and even system expansion are
realities for which preparations are required
today.
The author acknowledges the impossibility of
condensing into these few short pages all of the
information that would be of interest to the
engineer engaged in site selection and installa-
tion of small decentralized hydroelectric (SDH)
plants.
Hydraulic turbines are the same as any
rotating machinery in that they run better in the
complete absence of silt, soil, sand, stone and
metal particles. We should avoid designing a
water flow path that is able to permit passage of
such materials. When working with non-dam
waters, the following specific procedures may be
employed to give a longer operating life to the
SDH plant.
The site selection and the method of installa-
tion are both heavily biased by the equipment
selected and the available water supply sources.
We will list the information that must be made
available for the task.
156
Data Collection
1. Power demand, kW, Hertz, Phase, Voltage.
2. Transmission distance and maps of terrain.
3. Annual & monthly rainfall.
4. Drainage basin area.
5. Ratio of rainfall to run-off.
6. Flow-duration curves.
7. Gauging station data.
8. Topographical maps of the area of interest.
9. Location of usage point on the map
10. Location of any known falls or Steep terrain
in area.
