Pan fry the textured vegetable protein in 2 tbsp oil until in begins to brown. Add the bell peppers, onions<br />

and seasonings and sauté for 10 minutes, stirring often. Add the water and simmer for 20 minutes, stirring<br />

often. Sauté the mushrooms in 2 tbsp oil until they begin to brown, about 15 minutes. Add the<br />

mushrooms, rice, and jalapeno pepper to the textured vegetable protein mixture and stir well. Heat on<br />

low very low heat until the rice is hot throughout and serve.<br />

2 1/2 cups granular textured vegetable protein<br />

2 tbsp oil<br />

1 medium onion, minced<br />

1 medium bell peppers, minced<br />

2 1/2 cups water<br />

6 tomatoes, diced<br />

1 clove garlic, minced<br />

2 tsp salt<br />

1/4 tsp cayenne<br />

2 tbsp American chilli powder (or a mixture of paprika, cumin, black pepper and cayenne)<br />

2 tbsp corn syrup or golden syrup<br />

juice of 1 lemon<br />

2 tbsp soy sauce<br />

In a skillet, sauté the textured vegetable protein in the oil until lightly browned, stirring often. Add the<br />

onion, bell pepper and tomatoes and sauté for 20 minutes. Add the water and the remaining ingredients,<br />

stir well and simmer for 30 minutes or until the mix begins to dry out. It should be really thick. Serve on a<br />

grilled burger or hot dog bun.<br />
