Status Codes<br />

◆ The wrong media type. Verify that the media matches the drive type you are<br />

using.<br />

◆ Defective media. If this is the case, use the bpmedia command to set the volume<br />

to the FROZEN state so it is not used <strong>for</strong> future backups.<br />

◆ Incorrect drive configuration. Verify the Media Manager and system<br />

configuration <strong>for</strong> the drive.<br />

This often results in the media being frozen with a message, “too many data<br />

blocks written, check tape/drive block size configuration.”<br />

<strong>NetBackup</strong> Status Code: 85<br />

Message: media read error<br />

Explanation: The system device driver returned an I/O error while <strong>NetBackup</strong> was<br />

reading from tape or a disk file.<br />

Recommended Action:<br />

1. For additional in<strong>for</strong>mation, check the following:<br />

◆ <strong>NetBackup</strong> Problems report to determine the device or media that caused the<br />

error<br />

◆ Event Viewer Application and System logs<br />

2. Check <strong>for</strong> the following:<br />

◆ A defective or dirty drive. Clean it or have it repaired (see the tpclean<br />

command <strong>for</strong> cleaning).<br />

◆ Incorrect drive configuration. Verify the Media Manager and system<br />

configuration <strong>for</strong> the drive.<br />

◆ Defective media. In this case, you may not be able to recover all the data on the<br />

media. Use the bpmedia command to set the volume to the FROZEN state so it is<br />

not used <strong>for</strong> future backups.<br />

◆ The wrong media type. Verify that the media matches the drive type you are<br />

using.<br />

<strong>NetBackup</strong> Status Code: 86<br />

Message: media position error<br />

Explanation: The system’s device driver returned an I/O error while <strong>NetBackup</strong> was<br />

positioning media (tape).<br />
