bpimport Error Messages<br />

The cause of problems relating to bpimport can be determined by examining the<br />

<strong>NetBackup</strong> bptm logs on the media server on which the media is being imported.<br />

Message: Unable to connect to the Backup Exec engine<br />

Explanation: Backup Exec services are not running on the host on which the media is<br />

being mounted.<br />

Recommended Action: Check whether the Backup Exec services are running. The<br />

Backup Exec services are the following:<br />

◆ Backup Exec 8.x Agent Browser<br />

◆ Backup Exec 8.x Alert Server<br />

◆ Backup Exec 8.x Device & Media Service<br />

◆ Backup Exec 8.x Job Engine<br />

◆ Backup Exec 8.x Naming Service<br />

◆ Backup Exec 8.x Notification Server<br />

◆ Backup Exec 8.x Server<br />

Message: media manager - system error occurred (174)<br />

Explanation: It may be that bephyinv was not run on the media ID being imported.<br />

Recommended Action: Check whether the media ID being imported has a non-default<br />

ADAMM GUID in the Media Manager volume database. Run bephyinv on the media ID<br />

and rerun bpimport.<br />

Backup Exec File Browse<br />

To determine the cause of Backup Exec file browse problems, examine the bpdbm, bpcd,<br />

and bptm logs.<br />

To browse Backup Exec files using the Backup, Archive, and Restore interface:<br />

1. Open the Restore menu and choose Select Restore Type.<br />

2. Set the restore type to Backup Exec Backups or Normal and Backup Exec Backups.<br />

For more assistance, refer to the <strong>NetBackup</strong> user guide appropriate <strong>for</strong> your plat<strong>for</strong>m.<br />

To list Backup Exec files using the bplist command, ensure that the -flops parameter<br />

has been specified correctly to list only Backup Exec files, or both Backup Exec and<br />

<strong>NetBackup</strong> files.<br />
