Status Codes<br />

1. Examine command output (if available), debug logs, and system logs <strong>for</strong> a more<br />

detailed message on the error.<br />

a. Enable debug logging by creating the necessary directories/folders. Increase the<br />

level of verbosity by adding the VERBOSE option in the vm.conf file and<br />

restarting the daemons/services, or execute the command’s verbose option, if<br />

available.<br />

b. Retry the operation and examine the logs.<br />

2. Verify integrity of the device and the media, and check the system device files <strong>for</strong><br />

correctness according to the <strong>NetBackup</strong> Device Configuration <strong>Guide</strong>. Examples of problems<br />

that may have been encountered are:<br />

a. Operating system error where exclusive access to the disk could not be set.<br />

b. Operating system error while attempting to <strong>for</strong>mat the disk.<br />

c. Cannot determine the name of the disk.<br />

d. Operating system was unable to set the geometry.<br />

e. Could not write the volume table of contents.<br />

f. Cannot determine SCSI passthrough path to the device.<br />

g. Cannot read capacity of the optical platter.<br />

h. Cannot seek to write the volume header.<br />

i. Optical volume <strong>for</strong>mat is not supported on the targeted plat<strong>for</strong>m.<br />

Format Optical Status Code: 3<br />

Message: tp<strong>for</strong>mat: Cannot open<br />

Explanation: The <strong>for</strong>mat optical disk command tp<strong>for</strong>mat encountered a system, device,<br />

or media error while trying to open the optical disk device.<br />
