Client System Disk Recovery - <strong>Windows</strong><br />

<strong>NetBackup</strong> <strong>4.5</strong> <strong>Troubleshooting</strong> <strong>Guide</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Windows</strong><br />

On a <strong>Windows</strong> NT/2000 client:<br />

install_path\<strong>NetBackup</strong>\Logs\tar<br />

install_path\<strong>NetBackup</strong>\Logs\bpinetd<br />

On a <strong>Windows</strong> 98 or 95 client:<br />

install_path\<strong>NetBackup</strong>\Logs\bpcd<br />

<strong>NetBackup</strong> creates logs in these directories.<br />

7. For a <strong>Windows</strong> NT/2000 client, stop and restart the <strong>NetBackup</strong> Client Manager<br />

service.<br />

This enables <strong>NetBackup</strong> to start logging to the bpinetd debug log.<br />

8. For a <strong>Windows</strong> 98 or 95 client, stop and restart the <strong>NetBackup</strong> Client Daemon.<br />

This enables <strong>NetBackup</strong> to start logging to the bpcd debug log.<br />

9. Use the <strong>NetBackup</strong> client user interface to restore the system and user files to the<br />

client system.<br />

For example, if all files are on the C: drive, restoring that drive restores the entire<br />

system.<br />

To restore files, you do not have to be the administrator, but you must have restore<br />

privileges. For example, on <strong>Windows</strong> NT/2000, you must be a member of the Restore<br />

group, which is one of the built-in <strong>Windows</strong> NT/2000 groups. Refer to the online help<br />

or <strong>NetBackup</strong> User’s <strong>Guide</strong> <strong>for</strong> Microsoft <strong>Windows</strong> <strong>for</strong> instructions on how to restore files.<br />

Note <strong>NetBackup</strong> restores the registry when it restores the <strong>Windows</strong> system files. For<br />

example on a <strong>Windows</strong> NT/2000 client, if the system files are in the C:\Winnt40<br />

directory, <strong>NetBackup</strong> restores the registry when it restores that directory and all its<br />

subordinate subdirectories and files.<br />

10. Check <strong>for</strong> ERR or WRN messages in the log files that are in the directories you created<br />

in step 6.<br />

◆ For a <strong>Windows</strong> NT/2000 client, these are the tar and inetd log files.<br />

◆ For a <strong>Windows</strong> 98 or 95 client, this is the bpcd log file.<br />

If the logs indicate problems with the restore of <strong>Windows</strong> system files, resolve those<br />

problems be<strong>for</strong>e proceeding.<br />

11. Reboot the <strong>NetBackup</strong> client system.<br />

When the boot process is complete, the system is restored to the state it was in at the<br />

time of the last backup.<br />
