Enabling Detailed Debug Logging<br />

<strong>Troubleshooting</strong> the Administration Console<br />

The <strong>NetBackup</strong> Administration Console is a suite of client-server applications that allow<br />

administration of remote <strong>NetBackup</strong> servers. All administration is accomplished via the<br />

application server of the <strong>NetBackup</strong> Administration Console. This application server is<br />

made up of an authentication service and a user service.<br />

The login request from the login dialog is sent to the authentication service <strong>for</strong> validation.<br />

The user name and password have to be valid in the <strong>Windows</strong>/UNIX authentication<br />

files/process.<br />

After validation, the authentication service starts a user service under the user’s account.<br />

Thereafter, all <strong>NetBackup</strong> administrative tasks are per<strong>for</strong>med through that instance of the<br />

user service.<br />

On both UNIX and <strong>Windows</strong>, the authentication service is the bpjava-msvc application<br />

and the user service is the bpjava-usvc application.<br />

Some of the recommendations in Chapter 4 refer to enabling detailed debug logging and<br />

examining log files. These are the instructions <strong>for</strong> this activity.<br />

1. On the <strong>NetBackup</strong> client (*) or server specified in the login dialog, create the<br />

bpjava-msvc and bpjava-usvc debug log directories in the<br />

/usr/openv/netbackup/logs directory (UNIX) or in<br />

install_path\<strong>NetBackup</strong>\logs (<strong>Windows</strong>). Refer to Debug Logs earlier in this<br />

chapter <strong>for</strong> more in<strong>for</strong>mation.<br />

Note The <strong>NetBackup</strong> Java application server runs only on <strong>NetBackup</strong> UNIX clients. On<br />

<strong>Windows</strong>, the <strong>NetBackup</strong> Java application server runs only on <strong>NetBackup</strong> master<br />

servers.<br />

2. On the UNIX machine where you execute the jnbSA or jbpSA commands, add the<br />

following line to the Launch.properties or JBPSimple.properties file,<br />

respectively, in the /usr/openv/java directory.<br />

debugLevel=2<br />

The log file name is displayed in the xterm window where you executed the jnbSA or<br />

jbpSA commands.<br />

3. If you are using the <strong>NetBackup</strong> <strong>Windows</strong> Display Console, add the following line to<br />

the host_name.properties file in the <strong>NetBackup</strong> Java installed folder (<strong>for</strong><br />

example, C:\Veritas\java):<br />

debugLevel=2<br />
