<strong>NetBackup</strong> <strong>4.5</strong> <strong>Troubleshooting</strong> <strong>Guide</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Windows</strong><br />

1. Examine command output (if available), debug logs, and system logs <strong>for</strong> a more<br />

detailed message on the error.<br />

a. If not already enabled, enable debug logging by creating the necessary<br />

directories/folders. Increase the level of verbosity by adding the VERBOSE<br />

option in the vm.conf file and restarting the daemons/services, or execute the<br />

command’s verbose option, if available.<br />

b. Retry the operation and examine the logs.<br />

2. Identify the targeted host and verify that all Media Manager binaries on that host are<br />

at a compatible version level with other hosts that are part of the configuration.<br />

Update the software version as needed.<br />

Media Manager Status Code: 164<br />

Message: the robotic daemon returned an invalid volume GUID<br />

Explanation: An invalid RSM GUID was returned from the RSM robotic control process,<br />

which probably obtained it from the RSM API. (RSM is the Microsoft Removable Storage<br />

Manager, and GUID is a Global Unique Identifier.)<br />

Recommended Action:<br />

1. Examine the system’s application log, the Removable Storage system interface, and<br />

the daemon and reqlib debug logs <strong>for</strong> a more detailed message on the error.<br />

a. If it is not already enabled, enable debug logging by creating the necessary<br />

folders. Increase the level of verbosity by adding the VERBOSE option in the<br />

vm.conf file and restarting the <strong>NetBackup</strong> Device Manager service.<br />

b. Retry the operation and examine the logs. From the daemon debug log file,<br />

determine the media ID that has the invalid RSM GUID.<br />

2. Make sure that the software components are compatible.<br />

Media Manager Status Code: 165<br />

Message: Evaluation period expired. Go to www.veritas.com to order this product.<br />

Explanation: The <strong>NetBackup</strong> evaluation software has expired. See www.veritas.com<br />

<strong>for</strong> ordering in<strong>for</strong>mation.<br />

Recommended Action: Obtain a licensed copy of <strong>NetBackup</strong>, which includes Media<br />

Manager.<br />
