Record All In<strong>for</strong>mation<br />

If your troubleshooting attempt is unsuccessful, customer support can provide further<br />

assistance. Be<strong>for</strong>e calling, have the following in<strong>for</strong>mation ready.<br />

◆ Product, plat<strong>for</strong>m, and device in<strong>for</strong>mation:<br />

◆ Product and its release level.<br />

◆ Server hardware type and operating system level.<br />

◆ Client hardware type and operating system level, if a client is involved.<br />

◆ Storage units being used, if it is possible that storage units are involved.<br />

◆ If it looks like a device problem, be ready to supply device in<strong>for</strong>mation, such as<br />

the types of robots and drives, and their version levels along with Media Manager<br />

and system configuration in<strong>for</strong>mation.<br />

◆ Software patches to the products that were installed.<br />

◆ Service packs and hotfixes that were installed.<br />

◆ What is the definition of the problem as described earlier in this chapter? Copies of<br />

logs or core dumps (if any) can also be required.<br />

◆ Have you had this problem be<strong>for</strong>e? If so, was there a successful resolution and what<br />

did you try that time?<br />

◆ Has the configuration been changed recently and, if so, what was changed?<br />

◆ If necessary, can you communicate with technical support through ftp, email, or fax?<br />

This can be useful <strong>for</strong> sending things such as copies of logs.<br />

“Problem Report In<strong>for</strong>mation” on page 5 lists the in<strong>for</strong>mation you need and also provides<br />

methods <strong>for</strong> gathering in<strong>for</strong>mation.<br />
