Recovering the <strong>NetBackup</strong> Catalogs<br />

Recover Catalogs from Tape - Media Manager Catalogs Intact<br />

When the Media Manager catalogs are intact, you can recover the catalog backups by<br />

using a drive configured under Media Manager control as follows:<br />

1. Use the <strong>NetBackup</strong> Activity Monitor, or the Services application in the <strong>Windows</strong><br />

Control Panel, to stop the following services if they are running:<br />

◆ <strong>NetBackup</strong> Request Manager service<br />

◆ <strong>NetBackup</strong> Database Manager service<br />

2. Insert the tape with the catalog backup into an appropriate drive.<br />

If the tape is not in the drive, the Device Monitor shows a mount request when you<br />

start the recovery. If this occurs, insert the tape and use the Device Monitor to assign<br />

the drive to the request.<br />

3. On the <strong>NetBackup</strong> server where the drive attaches, execute the bprecover<br />

command.<br />

Example 1<br />

Assume you are restoring the catalogs to disk 1 on Figure 3 and the 8mm tape has<br />

media ID JBL29. To recover the <strong>NetBackup</strong> part of the catalogs from image 1 on the<br />

tape, execute the following command on shark:<br />

bprecover -r 1 -ev JBL29 -d 8mm<br />

Recovering shark:D:\VERITAS\<strong>NetBackup</strong>\db<br />

Example 2<br />

If the drive attaches to another <strong>NetBackup</strong> server, execute bprecover on the server<br />

where the drive attaches and specify shark with the -dhost option.<br />

bprecover -r 1 -ev JBL29 -d 8mm -dhost shark<br />

Recovering shark:D:\VERITAS\<strong>NetBackup</strong>\db<br />

4. Use the <strong>NetBackup</strong> Activity Monitor, or the Services application in the <strong>Windows</strong><br />

Control Panel, to:<br />

a. Start the following services:<br />

◆ <strong>NetBackup</strong> Request Manager service<br />
