Backup and Restore Functional Description<br />

<strong>NetBackup</strong>Listen An applications extension installed in the System:Extensions<br />

folder on the startup volume of a Macintosh client. It starts when<br />

the Macintosh is booted and runs in the background until the<br />

Macintosh is shut down. <strong>NetBackup</strong>Listen listens on the<br />

BPCD port number <strong>for</strong> requests from <strong>NetBackup</strong> servers and<br />

launches <strong>NetBackup</strong>BPCD when a request is received.<br />

Started By: When the Macintosh boots.<br />

Stopped By: When the Macintosh is shut down.<br />

Debug Log: Log files in the<br />

System:Preferences:<strong>NetBackup</strong>:inetd folder on the<br />

startup volume.<br />

tar On UNIX clients, the Tape ARchive program is a special version<br />

of tar provided with <strong>NetBackup</strong> and used to restore images.<br />

Started By: For each restore, bpbrm starts an instance of tar on<br />

the client.<br />

Stopped By: Completion of restore operation.<br />

Debug Log: tar.log on the client.<br />

TAR32 On <strong>Windows</strong> clients, the TAR32 program is a special version of<br />

tar provided with <strong>NetBackup</strong> and used to restore images.<br />

Started By: For each restore, <strong>NetBackup</strong> starts an instance of<br />

TAR32 on the client.<br />

Stopped By: Completion of restore operation.<br />

Debug Log: TAR.LOG in the <strong>NetBackup</strong> logs directory on the<br />

client.<br />

xbp Graphical display based client-user interface, on UNIX clients,<br />

with options <strong>for</strong> starting user-directed backups, restores, and<br />

archives. Functionally, it is very similar to the menu version, bp.<br />

Started By: /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/xbp command on<br />

the client.<br />

Stopped By: Quit option in xbp.<br />

Debug Log: None, although the log <strong>for</strong> the bpbackup,<br />

bparchive, bplist, and bprestore commands on the client<br />

may also be useful <strong>for</strong> debugging problems with xbp.<br />
