This guide explains how to isolate and resolve problems encountered when installing,<br />

configuring, or using VERITAS <strong>NetBackup</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Windows</strong>. This publication refers to<br />

VERITAS <strong>NetBackup</strong> as <strong>NetBackup</strong>. This includes coverage <strong>for</strong> Media Manager, a<br />

component of <strong>NetBackup</strong> used <strong>for</strong> media and device management.<br />

This guide is intended primarily <strong>for</strong> the system administrator who is responsible <strong>for</strong><br />

installing, configuring, and managing <strong>NetBackup</strong>. The system administrator is assumed<br />

to have a good working knowledge of both <strong>NetBackup</strong> and <strong>Windows</strong>. Some sections will<br />

also be useful to less-technical users who encounter problems when backing up,<br />

archiving, or restoring files.<br />

◆ Chapter 1, “Introduction,” explains how to define a problem and describes the<br />

in<strong>for</strong>mation you should gather during troubleshooting. Both administrators and<br />

client users should read this chapter first.<br />

◆ Chapter 2, “<strong>Troubleshooting</strong> Procedures,” includes procedures <strong>for</strong> isolating the<br />

problem to a specific area.<br />

◆ Chapter 3, “Using the Logs and Reports,” discusses the <strong>NetBackup</strong> logs and how to<br />

interpret them.<br />

◆ Chapter 4, “<strong>NetBackup</strong> Status Codes and Messages,” explains each <strong>NetBackup</strong> status<br />

code and provides corrective actions <strong>for</strong> error conditions.<br />

◆ Chapter 5, “Media Manager Status Codes and Messages,” explains each Media<br />

Manager status code and provides corrective actions <strong>for</strong> error conditions.<br />

◆ Chapter 6, “Disaster Recovery,” explains how to recover critical <strong>NetBackup</strong><br />
