expounds and illustrates a psycholinguistic appoach to language and speech errors,
and David Crystal explores the effects of long-range diachronic changes on
reading older literary texts, through a detailed analysis of imperfect rhymes in
Shakespeare’s sonnets. The next four papers are addressed to different levels of
language structure. The time-honoured problem of syntactic ambiguity is revisited
by Stathis Efstathiadis, Snežana Gudurić proposes a new typology of Serbian
phonemes based on the acoustic nature of sounds, Plemenka Vlahović engages
in contrastive lexicology, comparing the names of time segments in French and
Serbian, and Milorad Pupovac analyses Croatian names of firms. At the end, the
general subject matter of this section is transposed, in the contribution of Milorad
Radovanović, onto the level of the science of language, by means of an assessment
of a historical review of the development of linguistics contained in an early
book by the author to whom this volume is dedicated.
