23. Co-op’s Soya Dessert made by PLL was introduced in<br />

about 1988. This is a <strong>soy</strong> <strong>yogurt</strong>-type product <strong>and</strong> defi nitely<br />

the best <strong>soy</strong> <strong>yogurt</strong> on the market in Switzerl<strong>and</strong>. Soyana<br />

also produces a <strong>soy</strong> <strong>yogurt</strong>, probably from whole <strong>soy</strong><strong>milk</strong>,<br />

which he has heard is <strong>of</strong> good quality. But Speck feels that<br />

<strong>soy</strong> <strong>yogurt</strong> is not nearly as good as dairy <strong>yogurt</strong>.<br />

• Summary: Cole started in late 1984. His partner, who<br />

has all the risk <strong>and</strong> 51% equity, is Mr. Arora, a Sikh from<br />

India. Cole has 30% equity <strong>and</strong> the fi nance company has<br />

19%. Cole spent years in Los Angeles, <strong>and</strong> is a bit <strong>of</strong> a hype<br />

artist. He launched a <strong>soy</strong><strong>milk</strong> ice cream for the Regular T<strong>of</strong>u<br />

Co. He now has an inexpensive Japanese t<strong>of</strong>u plant with a<br />

continuous roller extractor. He tanks the <strong>milk</strong> to a spray drier<br />

or Tetra Pack machine. He has had big success with <strong>soy</strong><strong>milk</strong><br />

in the supermarkets. Before him all <strong>soy</strong><strong>milk</strong> came from<br />

V<strong>and</strong>emoortele/Alpro in Belgium. He produces private label<br />

Tetra Pak <strong>soy</strong><strong>milk</strong>s for 3-5 national supermarket chains. He<br />

is also doing an organic <strong>soy</strong><strong>milk</strong>. His ice cream looks like<br />

it will be very successful. It is made under license for him<br />

by Bayvilles, a big company. He has made genuine inroads<br />

into the mainstream market. Last year his total sales were<br />

$525,000. He also has okara burgers. He tried a <strong>soy</strong> <strong>yogurt</strong><br />

made from thin <strong>soy</strong><strong>milk</strong> but it fell fl at on its face. Address:<br />

foods ever seen in India. A full page ad interspersed with<br />

illustrations <strong>and</strong> logos. The text continues: “In the USA, they<br />

put <strong>soy</strong>a into burgers. In the UK, <strong>soy</strong>a foods earn millions<br />

every year.<br />

“In Sri Lanka, <strong>soy</strong>a fl our has been added to bakery fl our.<br />

And all over Europe, <strong>soy</strong>a <strong>yogurt</strong> is already a rage.<br />

“Enter Noble Soya House. A company that is getting<br />

into the exciting world <strong>of</strong> <strong>soy</strong>a foods <strong>and</strong> beverages. With<br />

an investment <strong>of</strong> Rs. 11.8 crores [118 million rupees]. A<br />
