We received with great sadness and regret the news of the depar-
ture of our heloved brother in Christ His Holiness Pope Paul VI.
The Christian world lost a great personality. We recali with grati­
tude his ecumenical endeavors for mutual understanding between the
Churches. His efforts to return to Egypt relies of St. Mark and
St. Athanasius could not be forgotten. We treasure deep memories
of our historical meeting together in Borne in 1973 for the first time
after fifteen centuries which opened a new era of coopération and
understanding. We beseach almighty God to give his soul repose in
his heavenly kingdom. Extending to our Sister Roman Catholic
Church the deep sympathy and condolence of the Coptic Orthodox
Church.
