846 Acta Apostolicae Sedis - Commentarium Officiale
We share in the sorrow occasioned by the death of Pope John Paul
and convey to Your Eminence our prayerful condolences.
Mark Lipa
Bishop of the Albanian Orthodox Church in the USA
We extend our deepest sympathy and fraternal prayers for the repose
of the good soul of Pope John Paul I. We pray that the goodness and
Christian brotherhood of His Holiness' brief but blessed pontificate
will remain as a lasting tribute to a truly Christian soul.
Mar Athanasius Ybshue Samuel
Archbishop Metropolitan of the Archdiocese
of the Syrian Orthodox Church in the USA and Canada
Members of the Episcopal Church all over this country mourn with
our brothers and sisters of the Roman Catholic Church over the un
expected death of Pope John Paul I. The gracious pastoral leadership
he had demonstrated in so short a time will be sorely missed by many
members of the Christian world. His adoption of the ñames of his two
predecessors was looked upon as a promise of combining the gifts of
leadership of John XXIII and Paul VI and we had and still have high
hopes for increasing warm relations between Anglicans and Roman
Catholics. We shall pray for the guidance of the Holy Spirit in the
College of Cardinais to choose a Pope with the gifts of John, Paul,
and now John Paul in his short but important papacy which set a
model of simplicity, gentleness and love.
John M. Allin, Presiding Bishop
Episcopal Church in the USA
On behalf of all Canadian Anglicans I assure you of our deep
compassion in the death of your chief shepherd and of our prayers for
the guidance of the Holy Spirit in your choice of a worthy successor
to a truly humble, open and loving servant of Christ, John Paul.
Archbishop Edward W. Scott
Primate, The Anglican Church of Canada
