My colleagues in the Commission of the European Community and<br />

I have been deeply moved by the news of the death of His Holiness<br />

Pope Paul VI. We ask Your Eminence to accept our sincerest condolences.<br />

We share the grief not only of the Catholic Church but of the whole<br />

world. We pay particular homage to the visionary interest he took<br />

in the community's affairs and to the personal support he constantly<br />

gave to the European ideal. Düring his reign His Holiness devoted<br />

himself unceasingly to the cause of pease and justice. His loss will be<br />

feit by the whole of mankind.<br />

It was with deep emotion that I reeeived the announcement of the<br />

passing of His Holiness Pope Paul VI and I wish to convey my most<br />

sincere condolences. In his long life His Holiness joined a humble<br />

service of God with untiring efforts to further peace and understanding<br />

amongst men. His work and personality will remain an inspiration<br />

for those who had the privilège of being reeeived by him.<br />
