C'est avec une grande consternation que nous avons appris le décès
de Sa Sainteté le Pape Paul VI Pontife Suprême de l'Eglise univer­
selle, Souverain de l'Etat de la Cité du Vatican. Le Pape Paul VI
demeurera pour le monde entier et pour l'Eglise Catholique l'un des
plus grands Papes de tous les temps. Nous lui rendons un profond
hommage pour ses vues réalistes des problèmes du monde, pour le
courage avec lequel il a durant son pontificat dénoncé les injustices
sociales, lutté pour la disparition des barrières raciales et prôné la
paix et la concorde entre les peuples et les nations. Au nom du peuple
centrafricain tout entier et en notre nom personnel nous vous adres­
sons nos condoléances les plus attristées.

We mourn with the world the passing away of his Holiness Pope
Paul VI, a great and noble soul who has left his imprint on history.
His unflagging efforts for the furtherance of peace and respect for
eternai human values in a world torn by violence and tension struck a
chord in ail right-thinking people.
We recali with feeling his visit to India in 1964, the first visit abroad
by the Pontiff.
On behalf of the Government and people of India, I convey our
heartfelt symphathy to Your Eminence and to the Catholic world.

It was with great sorrow that I learnt of the demise of His Holiness
Pope Paul VI. The Catholics of India are joined by the rest of our
people in mourning the passing away of this inveterate fighter for peace
and harmony in our troubled world.
