keit Papst Paul VI. bitte ich Euer Eminenz, den Ausdruck meiner<br />

aufrichtigsten Anteilnahme an dem unermeßlich schmerzlichen Verlust<br />

entgegenzunehmen, den die römischkatholische Kirche, die Christen­<br />

heit und die gesamte friedensliebende Menschheit erlitten hat.<br />

On behalf of the Government and people of Australia, I offer to<br />

Your Eminence the most profound condolences and the deepest sym­<br />

pathy on the death of His Holiness Pope Paul VI. His loss will be<br />

feit not only in the Church of which he was the Head but throughout<br />

the world. The deep humility and wise counsel of this great man<br />

will be sadly missed by all mankind.<br />

It was with deep sorrow that the people of Australia learned of<br />

the death of His Holiness Pope Paul VI. He will be remembered<br />

with deep affection in Australia not only for his service to humanity<br />

but also for the warmth of his présence in Australia as the first<br />

Pope to visit this country.<br />

His long term of onice covered a period of rapid world change<br />

which placed a heavy bürden on his Church to respond to many difficult<br />

issues. Through his patience, strength, wisdom and humility<br />

he was able to provide the leadership necessary for his Church and<br />

the example needed by mankind.<br />

Under Pope Paul VI, the Vatican has taken an active part in<br />

world affairs. The concern of the Vatican for world peace, social<br />

weif are and human rights as reflected in its role in the C. S. C. E.
