On behalf of the Government and people of Jamaica I wish to
express profound sympathy at the passing of Pope Paul VI.
He was an outstanding and untiring spokesman for world peace
and human rights, and his deep and sincere concern for people won
him the widest admiration. As leader of the Roman Catholic Church
he played a cruciai and significant role in the building of the bridges
of interdenominational relationships.
We have lost one of the great spiritual leaders of our time. While
mourning this loss we give thanks for the great distinction with which
he carried the message of peace and brotherhood throughout the world.
