I reeeived with sorrow the sad news of the passing away of His
Holiness Pope John Paul I, Head of the Catholic Church and Sove-
reign of the Vatican City State. In the name of the people and
Government of the United Arab Emirates and on my own behalf, I wish
to extend to Your Eminence and to ali Catholics our profound sym­
pathies and deep condolences for this bereavement. May the Lord
rest his soul in eternai peace.

the Holy Roman Church an expression of the deep sorrow with which
Her Majesty and the Duke of Edinburgh have reeeived the news of the
death of His Holiness Pope John Paul I.
Although he was such a short time in the High Office to which he
had been called, the humility and kindness shown by His Holiness will
remain a lasting and inspiring memory.
