It is with very great sorrow that I have learned of the death of Pope
Paul VI. I wish to convey to you my most sincere sympathy.

message dated 6 August 1978 :
"The Queen commands you to convey to the Cardinal Camerlengo
of the Holy Roman Church an expression of the deep sorrow with
which Her Majesty and the Duke of Edinburgh have reeeived the
news of the death of His Holiness Pope Paul VI.
On this sad occasion Her Majesty recalls with high esteem the untir-
ing efforts of His Holiness in promoting peace and concord throughout
the world."

It is with deep regret and sorrow that I learned of the death of
His Holiness Pope Paul VI. On this sad occasion may I extend to Your
Excellency the condolence and sympathy of the Government and the
people of Malaysia. The death of His Holiness will be a great loss not
only to the Holy Roman Catholic Church but also to the cause of hu-
manity which he fervently championed during the fìfteen years he was
in office.
