Lutheran World Fédération praises God for life and work of Pope
Paul. RIP.

The death of our brother in Christ Pope Paul VI moves all of us to
express our sadness at his passing. The Lutheran World Fédération re-
presenting Lutherans around the world remembers particularly the
ecumenical vision of Pope Paul and the warmth and hospitality shown
on our visits with him. It was under his leadership since the Second
Vatican Council that a significant convergence of life and thought bet­
ween Roman Catholics and Lutherans has been made possible. We are
also appréciative of his concern for world peace, a concern which led
him to seek reconciliation between many parts of this broken world.
We think especially of our sisters and borthers of the Roman Catholic
Church during thèse days of mourning. It is our hope that the delicate
and sensitive ecumenical leadership which we recognize in Pope Paul
may live as a guide as we attempt to be obedient to the prayer of our
Lord that the Church be one. We remember the Roman Catholic
Church as it prepares to select the successor to a dedicated man
who served his Church in a time of great challange.
