I am deeply saddened by the passing of His Holiness Pope Pani VI.
I shall always cherish the memory of his gracious guidance and friend-
ship. Please accept my heartfelt sympathy and condolences.

I am deeply grieved to hear of the death of His Holiness Pope
Paul the Sixth. He was not only an outstanding spiritual leader of
our times but also an apostle of peace. His Holiness was closely
associated with the struggle of humanity to establish a new world
order based on the principies of equity and justice and free from the
spectre of war.
His death at this juncture has created a void which will be difficult
to fili.
The Government and the people of Sri Lanka join me in extending
to you our sincere condolences on the irreparable loss.
