The people of Malta were shocked to learn of the sudden death of His
Holiness Pope John Paul I and with profound sorrow they join me in
paying him our last tribute. On behalf of the people of Malta and
on my own behalf I extend to Your Eminent Highness, to the Sacred
College of Cardinals and to the family of the deceased sincere and
heartfelt condolences.

The sudden and unexpected passing away of His Holiness John
Paul I so soon after his élection has deeply shocked us. This sad
news was reeeived with great distress by the Government and people
of Malta on whose behalf I wish to express to you my deepest sorrow at
this great loss. Please convey our sincerest sympathies and condolences
to the Sacred College of Cardinals and to the family of His Holiness.

The news of the sudden death of His Holiness Pope John Paul I,
whose papacy was one of the shortest in history, and following so soon
after the passing away of Pope Paul the VI has been reeeived with
great shock. By his passing away Catholics throughout the world and
mankind in general have lost yet another great leader who was an embodiment
of révérence, humility and simplicity. On behalf of my Government
and people, I extend my deepest condolences to Catholics ali
over the world for this irreparable loss which we accept as the will of
the Almighty. We will always remember him. May his soul rest in
peace.
