Anlässlich des Ablebens Seiner Heiligkeit Papst Pauls VI. über­
mittele ich Ihnen im Namen des Staatsrates und des Volkes der Deut­
schen Demokratischen Republik meine aufrichtige Anteilnahme. Das
Wirken Papst Paul VI. für Frieden und internationale Entspannung,
für Humanität und Verständigung zwischen den Völkern hat weltweite
Anerkennung und hohe Wertschätzung in der Deutschen Demokratischen
Republik gefunden.

It was with profound shock and sorrow that we learnt of the death
of His Holiness Pope Paul VI. He was an outstanding Leader of our
times who will be remembered not only as an exemplarly Leader of
the Catholic Church but as one who devoted a great deal of his life
and time to the cause of world peace and the eradication of poverty
and oppression from the face of the earth.
On this solemn occasion we recali with warmth and affection the
memorable visit he paid to Ghana when he endeared himself to all
those he met.
We join the millions of Catholics ali over the world in mourning
the passing away of a great Religious Leader. On behalf of the Gov­
ernment and People of Ghana and on my own behalf, I extend our
deepest condolences. May he have eternai rest.
