3. Gardebrigade und ein Battailon Spezialpolizei am Vormarsch teil. Von Osten her
stoßen das 80. unabhängige Gardebattailon, die 5. Gardebrigade sowie ein Battailon
Spezialpolizei und von Norden her das 81. unabhängige Gardebattailon vor. 255
Kurz - die kroatische Armee weiß schon zuvor, dass man sich vor den Krajina-
Truppen nicht zu fürchten braucht. Und dies hat Gründe. Erstens ist die Armee der
„RSK“ im Mai 1995 weder ausbildungsmäßig auf brauchbarem Stand, noch ist sie
entsprechend motiviert und personell ausgestattet und für die professionellen
Kroaten somit ohne Unterstützung durch das serbische Mutterland kein Gegner. Und
der zweite Grund für kroatischen Optimismus ist ein noch wesentlicherer: Man weiß
offenbar, dass die Unterstützung aus Serbien nie kommen würde. Und das beweist
sich gleich zu Beginn der Offensive am 1. Mai an der internen Reaktion des
serbischen Präsidenten in Belgrad gegenüber dem Kirchenoberhaupt, der sich um
die „Brüder“ jenseits der Drina sorgt: “Only an alarmed Patriarch Pavle telephoned
Milosevic to demand an urgent meeting. What is happening? The old man asked,
wondering whether Milosevic had already strayed form the narrow path of total
solidarity with the Serbs of Bosnia and Croatia. Will Serbia help its brethren in need?
“Everything is going according to plan,” Milosevic replied.” 256
Was damit gemeint ist, wird bald klar: Milosevic wird nicht eingreifen. Und das
staatliche serbische Fernsehen liefert den Quasi-Beweis, dass der serbische
Präsident Westslawonien bereits den Kroaten überlassen hatte: “During the Croatian
