The pit foreman corps wore a leather helmet to the clothes the head foreman in a mine wore the leather
helmet with neck leather and brass comb nickel-plated without Helmzier, the so-called Berlin cap. A
star nickel-plated more octagonally with fire brigade symbol (helmet with crossed axes) completed the
helmet. The other teams, the syringes and water teams wore only a canvas cap.
The top leaders of the defence carried a Prussian army - officer helmet with artillery top the top ended
as a ball. As Helmzier the Prussian eagle was carried. The syringe leaders also wore a leather helmet
with octagonal nickel-plated star with fire brigade symbol as well as a small approximately 8 - 10 mm
strong brass ridge.
Between 1914 and 1919 all teams of the defence are equipped with leather helmets, water and syringe
teams wear the same helmet now. There was a small one at the flat helmet approx. 8 - 10 mm of strong
brass crest and an achteckkiger star with fire brigade emblem made of brass. As of approx. 1920 the spot
hood as an officer helmet is also carried with differently long infantry tops and shed chain according
to the prescriptions of the Prussian fire brigade association. Very different stars and coats of arms serve
from nickel-plated sheet brass as Helmzier to indicate defence leadership, adjutants as well as syringe
leaders.
With the introduction of the unit fireman (third empire) defence everybody was equipped with the new
fire brigade helmet M 34 according to the prescriptions in easy form in metal execution with cooling
holes, neck leather and chinstrap with thorn buckle. The Prussian shield decorated the fire safety helmet
splashed black dully, late the black white red one the police. With decree of 10-7-1934 Prussian national
coat of arms is instead of the national emblem (swastika) and on the left the police eagle borne on the
right. In addition, the helmet was fitted with a crest by the end of 1940.

The fire brigades new formed by Soviet order now wear all possible helmets from inventory of the 3rd
empire into whole metal from air-raid precautions organs and occasional even leather helmets. The Nazi
Highness symbols were removed, also ornamentations of the leather helmets, to not cause any offence
with the occupation forces.
Finsterwalder defence people got a new one in a black paintwork, lighter fire safety helmet from volcano
fibre, according to the preliminary standard DIN 14940 with neck leather, simple chinstrap with thorn
buckle, in April 1956, manufactured. A channel profile from steel sheet edged the helmet edge so that
he got a better stability.
As of 1962 a helmet was manufactured in form developed further from a glass fibre-reinforced polyester
resin. The helmet edge also was edged in a channel profile. This helmet had a chinstrap at a four point
mounting with bicycle lock. The paintwork was carried out in a silvery-grey hammer blow. It became
the FF Finsterwalde as a replacement for the old black predecessor helmets of the Fertigungreihe 1954-
1962 carried in the rows. Fire safety helmets of the manufacturing row 1971-1974 from pale grey Plastmaterial
did not come to the introduction in the Finsterwalder defence.
The next manufacturing row, the DDR work safety helmet, white colouration and neck leathers were
