Die Stuttgarter Feuerwehrhelme von 1852 bis 1936
Zusammenfassung
Mit der Gründung der Freiwilligen Feuerwehr Stuttgart 1852 wurde auch in Stuttgart der in Süddeutschland
übliche Messinghelm in der Ulmer Form getragen. Bei der 1891 gegründeten Berufsfeuerwehr
wurden nach preußischen Vorbild Lederhelme in Form der Berliner Feuerkappe eingeführt. Der Brandmeister
und später auch die Feldwebel trugen lederne Offiziershelme. Nach der Selbstauflösung der
Freiwilligen Feuerwehr Stuttgart im Jahr 1897 wurde für die Kernstadt eine Reservefeuerwehr gebildet.
Diese sollte die Berufsfeuerwehr bei Großbränden unterstützen. Ihre Uniformierung ähnelte der Berufsfeuerwehr.
Sie wurde ebenfalls mit Lederhelmen, allerdings in einer anderen Form, ausgestattet. Die
Freiwilligen Feuerwehren der eingemeindeten Vororte orientierten sich an der Berufsfeuerwehr und der
Reservefeuerwehr und übernahmen zwischen 1900 und 1903 den Lederhelm und die blaue Uniform.
Eine Besonderheit stellt der Rauchhelm dar. Ob der von dem Stuttgarter Carl Baudistl 1863 entworfene
Helm in Stuttgart erprobt wurde, ist nicht geklärt. Der Königsche Rauchhelm wurde 1905 in der
Stuttgarter Feuerwehr eingeführt.
Ca. 1930 wurde bei der Berufsfeuerwehr die Feuerkappe durch den württembergischen Mannschaftslederhelm
ersetzt. Nur wenige Jahre später wurde auch in Stuttgart 1935 der Stahlhelm eingeführt. Damit
endet der Jahrzehnte lange Stuttgarter Eigenweg im Land Württemberg.
The fire helmets in Stuttgart 1852 - 1936

With the establishment of the volunteer fire-brigade in Stuttgart in the year 1852, the brasshelmet in
the Ulmer form was worn. In 1891, the professional fire-brigade was created based on the Prussian
model and leather helmets in form of Berlin fire caps were immediately introduced. The fire chief, and
also later the sergeants, wore leather officer helmets. After the disbanding of the volunteer fire-brigade
Stuttgart in the year 1897, the town center formed a reserve fire-brigade. It supported the professional
fire-brigade with major fires. Their uniforms resembled the professional fire-brigade. It was equipped
likewise with leather helmets, however in another form. The volunteer fire-brigades of the suburbs
oriented themselves with the professional fire-brigade and the reserve fire-brigade. Between 1900 and
1903, the leather helmet and the blue uniform became standard.
A characteristic represented in the smoke helmet. Whether or not Carl Baudistl sketched the helmet in
Stuttgart in 1863 is not clear. The „Königsche Rauchhelm“ (smoke helmet) was used since 1905 by the
professional fire-brigade of Stuttgart.
Probably in 1930 the fire cap of the professional fire-brigade was replaced by the normal württembergischen
crew leather helmet. Only few years later in 1935 was the steel helmet introduced in Stuttgart.
Now the self-way of Stuttgart in the country Württemberg ends.
