Entwicklung des Kopfschutzes fuer den Feuerwehrmann

Im Jahr 1990 wurden alle zu dieser Zeit bestehenden Jugendgruppen mit einem Plastikschutzhelm ausgestattet,
der seither bei Bewerben verpflichtend zu tragen ist.
Vor allem das Arbeiten mit den Hydraulischen Rettungsgeräten – diese wurden ab 1976 nach und nach in
Dienst gestellt – erforderte eine Neukonstruktion der Einsatzhelme. Mit dem neunen Heros/Rosenbauer
–Helm wurde die Berufsfeuerwehr Salzburg als erste 1992 ausgestattet, die Umrüstung der Freiwilligen
Feuerwehren erfolgte ab dem Jahr 1993.
Der Landesfeuerwehrrat schrieb im Juli 1996 eine Beschaffungsaktion für Auer-, Dräger- und
Rosenbauer-Helme aus. Bis zum Jahre 2000 wurden alle Feuerwehren mit der neuen Helmgeneration
ausgestattet, preisbedingt zum überwiegenden Teil mit dem „Heros II“.
Der Traditionshelm „Wiener Form“ wird seither weiterhin bei feierlichen und kirchlichen Anlässen
zur Dienstbekleidung braun mit Leibriemen getragen. Damit erfährt die lang gepflegte Tradition eine
würdige Fortsetzung.
Die neuen Feuerwehrhelme haben sich inzwischen schon bei den vielen Brandbekämpfungseinsätzen,
mit und ohne Schwerem Atemschutz, sowie bei allen Arten Technischer Hilfeleistungen vielfach bewährt
und bieten den Feuerwehrleuten einen bisher nicht gekannten Kopfschutz. Auch ihr modernes
Erscheinungsbild vermittelt den zu Hilfe kommenden Mitmenschen ein professionelles Eingreifen,
stärkt das Vertrauen in die Helfer und Helferinnen.

King will say: “What you have done for one of my inferior brothers you have done to me”. Protected by
the helmet and “To the honour of God, and the protection of your nearest” the fire fighters realize these
encouragements from the Bible. So, the fire brigade helmet is a symbol also for active charity.
In 1864 the helmet was a part of the cap insignia of the voluntary fire brigade Oberndorf, the first in
Land Salzburg. Maybe the “Prague helmet” served as a model, as also the distinctions with granades
were made after the model of the Prague fire brigade.
The first fire brigade helmets became evident by the voluntary fire brigade of the city of Salzburg founded
in 1865. There were 6 leather-, 106 white metal and two packfong helmets. The medias reported
from the first Florian festival on May 6 th 1866, that some of the firefighters showed up in their gleaming
helmets.
A report from 1883 to the landtag tells that around half of the 2.208 firemen from 31 voluntary fire brigades
was equipped with a helmet.
As no common regulations existed, the fire brigades bought what was available According to existing
picturess normally in Land Salzburg the “Austrian helmet” was used with rosette or lion’s stormband,
a narrow round crest or individual arms ,badges and decorations among them also freemason symbols.
